Addison Venture #1: Exploring Outside the Box

                                                                                                                                           Read Entry #2

Advancing Native Missions presents...
Addison Venture Travel Log

We have spent many years trying to find a fun and educational way to teach kids about native missions, and it is coming your way in the form of a character named Addison Venture. Our prayer is that you will be able to use these stories and Biblical truths at home or in the classroom as a weekly missions emphasis. The complete potential of Ad's ventures is limited by nothing except your own imagination. These stories could be read aloud, or better yet, acted out by a volunteer who would be willing to play the part of a world famous explorer. Ad's Official Travel Log entries will be coming to you weekly, but it's up to you to decide how they will best benefit the children you serve.

Addison - magnifying glassEntry Number: 1
Location: Ventureville, USA
Subject Explored: Heritage

Uncle Arnie gave me this Travel Log. He said that adventures like the one on which I'm about to embark were meant to be shared. But I can't rightly share the adventures to come without first explaining how they came to be.

You see, my history of exploring goes way back. I mean way, WAY back. All the way back to my great-great-great-great (that's four, count 'em) grandfather Abraham Alfred Venture III - better known as Grandpa Abe. It was Grandpa Abe who discovered and founded Ventureville - the place where all us Ventures have been born and raised ever since. Exploring and discovering is in our blood. I have a cousin who is an entomologist. "A what?" I hear you ask. Well, before you twist your tongue in a knot like I just did, let me warn you that it's just a fancy word for someone who studies bugs. Cousin Andy has discovered at least fifty different species of insects deep in the Amazon jungles. Then, of course, there is Uncle Arnie whose interest in archeology has taken him all over the world. Great Aunt Alice was a deep sea diver who searched for sunken treasure ships. Yep, the Venture family is chock full of explorers, and I soon found that I was pretty good at exploring and discovering things myself. My very first dig site (well, aside from the sandbox that I played in as a toddler) was a cereal box. You can find all sorts of things in cereal boxes! Why, I've discovered everything from magnifying glasses, toy cars, plastic rings (I pass girly things like that on to my baby sister, Adeline), stickers, action figures... If it can be found in a cereal box, you can pretty much guarantee that I, Addison Venture, have discovered it.

But I was getting a little tired of cereal box adventures. I wanted to explore something meaningful - something that would impact the world. So I decided to take my exploring career outside the box...

Addison's family is full of explorers, so I guess you could say that discovering things is a part of his heritage. Heritage is just a fancy word for a trait or quality or something that is passed down from one generation of family members to the next, and to the next, and to the... well, you get the idea.

Maybe people can tell you are your dad's child because you have the same blue eyes and dark hair color that he has, or maybe your mom is a talented artist and you find that drawing cool pictures comes easily for you. That's because it's all part of your heritage. If you belong to the family of God, you have the very best heritage of all. You get the right to enjoy a great life here on earth AND the promise of eternal life in heaven. Wow! (That beats having a nose like Addison's Uncle Arnie's any day!)

In the weeks ahead, we'll find out what it really means to be a part of God's family while we learn to share some of the same qualities that Jesus has. We'll also meet lots of brothers and sisters in Christ from all across the world as we travel with Addison "outside the box" to the 10/40 Window and beyond! So grab your gear, and let's go!
