Some form of cornmeal mush is found over much of Africa, both east and west.  Corn (maize) is a staple in Kenya. Ugali (Cornmeal Mush) Ingredients 2 cups cornmeal 4 cups water  Salt and pepper to taste Preparation Bring water to a boil in a large saucepan.  Stir boiling water as you sprinkle in the cornmeal.  Cook for 20 minutes or until it is very thick and smooth, stirring constantly to prevent burning.  Cover saucepan and continue cooking 10 more minutes over very low heat.  Serves 6.    ...

Giving away smiles through E-mail

How could E-Mail could bring a smile to our ANM African partners? Well, all you need is a simple brown paper bag, some markers, and away you go. This past May, some of our next generation team went to Ghana as a support team for ANM's 2nd Eagles Conference. This conference is where many of ANM's African partners and wives met to learn from one another, network, and seek the Lord together. Armed with bags of goodies, cards, scripture, and even ring-pops we were ready give smiles to those who serve the Lord's people so faithfully. Each day during the conference we filled the bags with notes and encouraged the Eagles and their wives to do the same. The Encouragement bags also known as, "E-mail"...

Churches To Be Closed in Algeria

We recently received this email at our offices.  Please make this a matter of prayer. Dear Brothers and Sisters, Warm greetings in Jesus' powerful and mighty Name!  The head of the EPA ( The Algerian Protestant Church Association) has received the following order from the High Police commissioner in his town:  "On May 5th, 2011, a decision has been made according to article number 566/11, to close down throughout the country all the Christian worship places, which are not designated for religious purposes.  I, Mr Ben Salem, the high commissioner of the police in the Bejaia area, have informed Mr. Mustapha Krim, the President of the ( EPA ) Algerian Protestant Church...

The Miracle of Tigania

THE MIRACLE OF TIGANIA! I stood in worship… hands outstretched, thoughts running through my mind and tears running down my cheeks. I was part of a miracle! Here I was in central Kenya 45 minutes north of Meru Town in the village area called Tigania.  Nearby was Mt. Kenya, the second highest mountain on the continent, with its craggy peaks reaching over 17,000 feet into the African sky.  I had been here seven years before.  That was the beginning of the miracle.  Here is the story… In 2004, I had been part of a ministry team conducting a three-day Operation Barnabas conference in Meru for the purpose of encouraging indigenous pastors.  The coordinator...

Great Conference

[We just received this report on an Operation Barnabas International conference held in Kenya recently with the ministry of Cornerstone Evangelistic Ministries. - ed.]   "We praise and thank God for the very successful conference and open air meeting here in Meru. Many of us will never be the same agin. We thank God for brothers Jerry, Dan ,David and Chris for sharing with us. I am  getting very encouraging reports from the participants. Brother, we saw the hand of God since the people who turned up were so many than we had anticipated and we had a very limited budget as we are experiencing hard times in Kenya.  We thank God for the provision and the help we got...

4,320 minutes could change a continent!

Encouragement. Something every ministry leader we serve needs. Therefore, for three days or 4,320 minutes, a monumental event will take place in Ghana, Africa. In just a few weeks, all of Advancing Native Missions' African ministry partners will come together for the very first time to seek the Lord, to learn from one another, to be encouraged and see how God would have them work together for the furtherance of the Gospel on their continent. You may not be able to be in Ghana to witness this event, but you can be an important part of encouraging these brothers and sisters. How? You can pray. Please pray that the Lord would move in a mighty way. Pray that the Lord will unite the national leaders...

Coconut Bean Soup

(From Tanzania) In Tanzania, as in other African countries, soups and stews are served in a consistency that is as thick as our stews.  Coconut bean soup would be used as a meatless main dish by increasing the quantities of beans and rice.  However, this recipe has been thinned to a soup consistency with additional water.  Any dried beans, such as black-eyed peas or pea beans, can be used in this soup.  Just cover them with water and cook until tender before combining them with the other ingredients.  Coconut milk and the delicate use of curry give the soup its unusual flavor.   In a 3 quart saucepan saute the following: 1/2 cup onion, chopped finely1/2 cup...

Wise Words

The following words of wisdom were sent to us by one of our native missionary partners... A Few Important Truths This Week...  ·         You are most like God when you do two things – when you love and when you forgive. ·         Whenever your faith is tested, something glorious is about to happen. ·         The greater the warfare, the greater the blessing that is coming. ·         The greater the delay to persevering prayer, the greater the answer when it arrives. ·        ...

Report from the Liberia OBI - Day 2

Powerful morning. Even though He was here before we even arrived, God showed up in an awesome way at 11:25 a.m. this morning. There is a tremendous and powerful annointing on every aspect of this OBI. Even though it is hot, real hot, the team's spirits are good, in one accord, and heavy with anticipation that God will continue to move. Thank you for your prayers. We sense them and desperatly need them.  -Dan Reichard, OBI Team Leader...

Report from the Liberia OBI

Greetings from Monrovia, Liberia. This morning at 11:25 a.m., more than 200 native pastors were on their knees, praying for America, praying for national revival, praying for God to reveal Himself through His Son to those who have yet to hear. It is an honor to serve these beautiful brethren. Nothing...nothing is more important than telling others of Jesus.  We spoke in a swamp church tonight and God gave each of us the word to encourage the brethren...  "Be strong and of good courage".  What a confirmation.  There was a tremendous outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the meetings on this the first full day. They have been praying and fasting for these meetings and it...

Catherine Mitala and her husband Alex have a ministry in the most difficult of areas...  War torn, Uganda. The women have  overcome great obstacles with the help of Back to Bible Truth Ministries (BBT).  The women have been abused, raped and have low self esteem.  She trains them in a vocation and gives them the tools they need to succeed and feed their families.   She also runs an orphanage for children who are affected by wars.  She now has upwards of 900 children.   The orphanage is unfinished.  They will donors to come forward and help them finish this project.  God is able.  The Lord hears the cries of this woman of God!  Isaiah 58:9...

Village Evangelism Brings in Great Harvest

Greetings.   I want to inform you that we've come back from our trip to Yope and Tiviepe Villiage. What a joy for both villages and also for our ACM team! The Lord drew hundreds of souls to Himself through the crusade, the Jesus film, two by two house to house evangelism campaign, the medical assistance progam and the humanitarian gifts for the needy ministry. This time more than 300 persons confessed Christ as thier savior during the crusade. On Sunday 82 new believers came to church. Many testified about being healed from headaches, pains in the waist and in their backs, stomach ulcers, and many other illnesses through our prayers.   So...

Ministry to the Pygmies

Sixty years of age and married 40 years, Pastor Ebongo and his wife live in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa.  For the past six years he has been faithfully reaching out to one of the "least reached" people groups of our world - the Batwa people, better known to the Western world as the "pygmies."  It is estimated that 450,000 pygmies live in the rain forests of central Africa.  They live in very primitive conditions suffering from disease, discrimination, and, at times, even cannibalism from other tribes.  Twelve of these "for whom Christ died" were part of the OBI in Kinshasa, the capitol of the Congo.  There they discovered love and acceptance. Pastor...

A Light in the Darkness

Togo, Africa, is a country that is held in great spiritual darkness. Many of the villagers there live under the control of voodoo. Witch doctors use these practices to cast spells on the people and cause them to become sick or even die. The villagers cling to this darkness for fear of the witch doctors and also because they make a profit from selling hand-crafted objects to tourists who don't realize the strong voodoo connections these items have. But there is at least one ministry that is shining God's Light in the darkness. The workers of Army of Christ Mission (ACM) spend a lot of time on their knees. They first pray to determine which villages God is calling them to evangelize....

Educating Africa

Children in Africa are starving. Not only for food, but for education. Without schooling - without an education that will train their eyes to look beyond their current situations - these children will never rise above the dire circumstances into which they were born. You can make a difference in the life of a child. You can help them receive an education that will make their futures that much brighter. Advancing Native Missions is partnering with ministries around the world to ensure that  these children receive the educations they deserve. Only $25 dollars a month will send a child to school. Click the Sponsorship tab to find out more about how you can help save a child....

Bringing the Light to Darkest Africa

America is a greatly blessed land. Here we consider it an abnormality when someone doesn't have a car. In Africa, it is a blessing if you do have a vehicle. Many African pastors have to travel great distances to reach the lost people of many different villages. This can be a big challenge when the pastors have to walk those great distances. Ministries operate much more smoothly when they have a vehicle to use for travel. This is why Advancing Native Missions is partnering with people all over the US to provide motorcycles for African pastors. These motorcycles will carry a bearer of the Gospel into the remote villages of Africa. Please pray that many motorcycles will be...

Goats for Africa

My sister got a little baby pygmy goat last spring and I must confess, I think she is the most fun creature I've ever been around. She would follow us around and curl up beside us like a dog would. I was amazed by how high she could jump with such little legs. If you are planning on getting a pet, I highly recommend pygmy goats. But in some areas of the world, goats are so much more than just a pet; they are a livelihood. Advancing Native Missions partners with ministries in Africa that are presenting goats to poor village children. These goats will make wonderful companions for these children, but also provide for them by producing milk. The goat's offspring can be sold in order to supply income...

Passing of a Hero

One of the coolest parts of serving at ANM is that we get to meet heroes of the faith, the Native Missionaries. We get to hear their stories about what God is doing in them and through their ministry. I am humbled every time I get to sit and hear firsthand how awesome our God is and see the faith that these missionaries have. Many of them go through persecution on a daily basis, but have so much faith in God. They have a heart for the lost, and they will endure anything to do the work of their Heavenly Father. I had the opportunity to meet one of these heroes last spring. He serves in Cote d'Ivoire, Africa. I had the opportunity to hear him speak several times to students and tell them...

Highlights and What is to Come

When I look back at what God did through Student Missions this year I am humbled and in awe. To think that student missions did not exist at ANM 3 years ago and to see all that God has done is incredible. I am so blessed to be a part of what God is doing around the world and to be able to get students involved. The following are some of the highlights from this past year: We had the opportunity to visit 3 college campuses and a college club to get students excited about native missions Had a university take on projects to support the work God is doing through native missionaries in 20 countries There have been about 10 college students involved in projects to advance the work that ANM is...

Student Missions: What's Your School Doing?

This week there have been two testimonies from schools that truly have touched us in our department. Both schools show what happens when students of all ages catch a vision and invest in God's work around the world. SCHOOL 1: A Christian school in Charlotte, NC, hosts a  missions week each year. Leading up to the week they introduce a project to the students and tell them to do extra chores, sell something, or do something to collect for the project. For the last few years they have collected money to send Bibles to Iran. This year they continued this project to send Bibles to Iranians who cherish the Word of God. The students truly went above and beyond what one could imagine....

Reaching Lost Villages

The world is full of people who need to hear that Jesus came to save them. Advancing Native Missions partners with those who would take the Gospel message to these people. We have found that there are many pastors in Africa with a burden to reach these lost people, but they have difficulty in getting to them. Many of these faithful servants walk many miles because of their commitment to reach these people, but this takes time and exhausts the missionaries. Their work would be much more efficient if only they had bicycles on which they could travel. On a bike, these missionaries could cut back on the time it takes to reach these distant villages. With a bicycle, they could go farther and...

Cool Things Happening in Student Missions

Well today we are launching a project at Liberty University that is so exciting. Last year the students at Liberty took on 25 projects that impacted 39 ministries around the world. The students definitely made a difference around the world. This year they are taking a huge step up with their project. They are getting involved in building a Christian university in Ghana, Africa. Today in Africa more than 73% of the population is less than 50 years old and more than 50% is less than 15 years.  In Ghana, like in most Africa countries, more than 60% of high school students who qualify to go universities do not gain admission. There are not enough universities coupled with inability to...
