Sarah in NYC
This is a wonderful story about one little girl's tender and caring heart... Sarah’s grandmother was planning a trip to New York City to take Sarah and her mom to The American Doll Store. Sarah, a 7 year old child, came to her mom and said, “Mom, I hear there are people in New York City that don’t know about Jesus. Addicts find hope in Jesus Christ
Betel: Hope for the Most Hopeless Betel of Britain is a group of caring, not-for-profit Christian communities in the heart of the UK dedicated to restoring homeless and long-term unemployed people to healthy, independent lifestyles. They first introduce new residents to faith in Christ, walk with them through detoxification, and then train men and women in a wide range of life and employment skills, enabling them to rebuild a strong work ethic. Help Feed The Hungry In Somalia
Dear Christian Friends: You have very likely been watching the reports coming out of east Africa. Millions are suffering the dreadful consequences of a devastating drought. Untold numbers are facing death in this crisis. Probably many of you have been touched by the images of the drought-stricken victims of Somalia in particular, and wondered if there is any way you could help. Now we can offer you an opportunity to do just that. ANM is working with a Christian ministry that is on the ground and offering relief directly to the suffering people of Somalia. God is alive in Mumbai
We will start by proclaiming that God is alive and active here Mumbai! We have been witnesses to His mighty hand at work through Bombay Teen Challenge and their many vital outreaches. Our team has spent three amazing days here and in that short time, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of God’s holy spirit in and through each of us. It hasn’t taken long for God to unify and strengthen our team as one heart, one mind, and with one purpose. And that purpose is to bring God glory. God is leading and teaching us as a group to simply love Him and love others. Here’s just a glimpse of what God is doing in Mumbai given through they eyes of eight extremely grateful hearts....

Medical Team Needs Glucometers
One of our partner ministries in the Philippines is in need of two sets of Glucometers for their medical missions. Philippine Gospel Association (PGA) is a medical ministry that is headed up by Dr. Linda, a small lady in stature, but a giant when it comes to the spiritual and medical needs of her country. PGA has a dedicated staff of pastors, doctors and dentists that give of their time and knowledge to reach many in the Philippines. What they lack is equipment to do the necessary tests and examines to help their patients. Would you consider giving to this great need? One unit is $250.00. If you are interested in giving, please see project #643 in our list of projects. ...

A Request From the Warehouse
We just want to start out by saying we appreciate you. Thank you for all you've done for the Warehouse this year. As 2010 comes to a close, we are working on inventory. While we have great plans for 2011, this process is going to keep us very busy the next few weeks. Right now we are asking if you would hold off on donating any new items until the second week of January. You can still be collecting items, we just ask that you wait a few weeks before bringing them to the Warehouse. Thank you for understanding. We look forward to serving with you in 2011!...

Aetas Bible Study and Worship Center
Organized by Wilson Ladringan, whose ambition as a child was to become a soldier like his father, the Aetas Bible Study and Worship Center (ABSC) is a ministry reaching out to the illiterate and impoverished aborigines of the Philippines known as the Aetas. The eruption of Mount Pinatubo in June 1991 buried most of the mountains of Zambales in volcanic ash and sand, displacing many of the Aetas who lived in these mountains. ABSC runs Maranatha Children’s Home that primarily caters to the physical, educational, and spiritual needs of the indigent Aeta children and youth ages 5 to 18 years from the different tribal villages in Zambales. Both Wilson and Cora have degrees in education, which...

Operation Barnabas International FAQs
FAQs: 1. How many OBI conferences have been conducted? OBI began in 1994 and since then has sponsored more than 200 conferences and served more than 20,000 native workers. 2. Do the native missionaries have to pay to come to the conferences? No. OBI raises 100% of the budget to rent a venue and equipment, as well as to lodge the atendees in a clean and safe environment, feed them better food than they are used to eating, etc. 3. If the native missionaries do not pay to come to the conference, how do you raise the money to sponsor the conferences? By faith we trust God to speak to the hearts of American believers to sponsor a missionary ($45...

Doctor said NO !!!
Doctor Rejected Me But God Accepted Me My name is Gopal Singh Rana. One time I was working in a field, and suddenly fell to the ground. I struggled to remember who I was and where I was, but my memory failed me. A family member later found me unconscious and brought me back to my house. My family called both a doctor and a sorcerer to give me treatments, but I didn't get better. I was taken to hospitals, sorcerers, temples, and many gods and goddesses, but nothing helped. My condition grew increasingly worse until a doctor told my family that I would not live much longer. After receiving the same diagnosis from four or five other hospitals, my family took me home and began to...

Mexico Trip 2010
Mexico has received a great deal of attention and it's not all good; to say the least. Maybe, that is because they have not publicized the news coming out of San Pedro. Seedtime and Harvest Ministries has been working there in the midst of a population that has been known to have the largest population of heroin addicts in Mexico. It is no mystery that where heroin is prevalent, the streets are not safe. However SHM has been working amongst their people to make a marvelous difference. They have developed drug rehabilitation and prevention programs that have altered the lives of their youth and young adult population. It is all through the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At SHM, they...

Reaching Chinese Worldwide: China at Your Doorstep
The following article was written by our friend, Wright Doyle of the China Institute. "Dear Prayig Friends: In a week or two, schools and colleges will open again, and the classrooms will be heavily populated with Chinese. More and more, Chinese undergraduates are coming to the West for their college education, while graduate students and scholars continue to take advantage of our high-ranking universities, and their young children become top students in our schools. This steady trend may not persist, since Chinese parents and young adults have more money to spend on prestigious education abroad. Our Opportunity: Of course, as we say every year at this time, the...

Two Greatest Needs for China
The Two Greatest Needs for China: Often I am asked, “What is the greatest need for China”? I always respond that there are actually two great needs for China today; the need for Bibles in their language and for leadership training. The first is the need for more Bibles to China. China has a population of almost 1 ½ billion people. That means that about 1 out of every 4-5 people on the earth lives in China. As you know, China has experienced a tremendous moving of God in the last 35 years and the number of Christians in this, the most populated country in the world, may exceed 150 million. And yet, the Bible is still scarce in most of rural China. ...

Pray for China’s Natural Disasters: Recently a dear friend and partner in China sent the following update: “You are probably well aware of the media documented floods that have been ravishing Asia. Our area of Sichuan is especially affected by recent floods. Tragically, the hardest hit part of Sichuan was also the most devastated by the earthquake back in 2008. We are still quite active in that very region, helping with direct and indirect aid, although our workers are unable to access some regions now because of the mudslides. Some replacement housing is flooded, others rendered unsafe. Over 1,000 have died and more than a quarter million...

Why a ministry to the persecuted church?
For every unreached people group in the world today, there are different obstacles and challenges to reaching them with the Gospel. Among these various challenges, there is one so great which even the most persevering missionary finds extremely difficult to overcome: the organized and systemic persecution of the church by the state and all levels of society. Christians in such places suffer on a variety of practical levels. Many are falsely charged, imprisoned, and/or martyred. Many lose their jobs or cannot find employment due to persecution and/or religious blacklisting. Families of those charged, imprisoned or martyred often lose their sole family breadwinner, resulting in a Christian...

How to help persecuted Christians
You can help address the needs of those suffering from Christian persecution in three practical ways: 1. Awareness The first step that individuals and churches should take is to develop awareness of the plight of the world-wide persecuted church. Per your invitation, our CPC Department can send you any of the following resources, free of charge: literature about Christian persecution regular news updates (hard copy) on ministries which are serving persecuted believers in their own nations e-mail prayer bulletins which alert you to specific world-wide needs requiring urgent prayer a personal visit by an ANM staff missionary to your church, home group, or school to talk about...

Pure Religion Found In China
“Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress and keep oneself unstained by the world”. (James 1:27) In 2009, during our first visit to China, we found that the Bethel Orphanage for Blind Children in China is an oasis of pure and undefiled religion. The Bethel or Jici Orphanage, founded by a French couple, Guillaume and Delphine Gauvain, is located on the outskirts of Beijing and is home to about 50 children with various degrees of visual impairments. Many of the children are also victims of physical, sexual or emotional abuse as well. This was a special destination for Shelley...

An Expedition Update
During The 10/40 Expedition: Quest for the Lost Window’s first year in the marketing world, we sold 30 curriculums. Hello from the Education Advocates Director
Hello, my name is Sonia Cabell, and I would like to introduce myself to you! For the past 10 years, I have been in the field of education, working as a teacher, literacy coach, researcher, and writer. Most recently, I completed my Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in Reading Education. I feel personally called to apply the knowledge and skills the Lord has developed in me over the years to serve schools, teachers, and children overseas. The goal is to come alongside overseas educators to provide sustained support to enhance the quality of school literacy programs. In doing this, I hope to build a team of American educators that will provide encouragement to native missionaries and ongoing...

Thoughts from a Youth Pastor
A few weeks ago we told you of a visiting youth group from Bay Ridge Christian Church. The team was such a blessing to the ANM Home Office. They helped prepare our building for construction. Below are some thoughts from Jeremy: "I joined the staff of Bay Ridge Christian Church in Annapolis, Maryland, as youth pastor in 2007. Previously, I had worked closely with several missions agencies and organizations. At the time I was hired, our church had been supporting Advancing Native Missions for several years. I, however, had not had any exposure to ANM. So when I had the opportunity to lead a week-long missions trip from my church to ANM’s headquarters in 2010, I took the task with eager curiosity....

Through the Flood
The flood season brought disaster to a small part of India. Due to the weather conditions, a terrible disease spread throughout the land. Eight people died of this sickness. But God often uses bad circumstances to create good endings. That is what He did in the Mogadara Guda village. A small church of 34 members meet in the Mogadara Guda village. These members are faithful to share the love of Jesus with surrounding villages. The flood provided opportunity to do just that. This small congregation began to help the sick people from the other villages. When non-believers tried to help the sick people, they got sick, proving that God kept this church family well so they could...

ANM is pleased to announce a brand new ministry effort. This ministry is called International Women's Ministries and is under the direction of Autumn Graves. Autumn says about this new endeavor: "The mission of International Women’s Ministries is found in Isaiah 54:7, '…with great mercies I will gather you.' The MISSION of IWM is to be an instrument used by God to gather women globally and encourage them through empowerment, connections and care. IWM gathers women globally and seeks to reach-out to missionary wives, widows, single mothers and solitary workers to “Help Wipe the Tears of our Sisters,” especially those in difficult...

Health Disaster in India
For the last one month there have been very heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh, especially in Srikakulam. All the rivers are flowing with heavy rain water. Today the media reported that 68 people have died in a week day's time in Srikakulam revenue district due to diarrhea. It is noted that most of these deaths reported from our tribal belt. It is due to a lack of sanitation and the lack of availability of medical assistance that these deaths are happening. As we are praying for our people we felt compelled to respond to the medical need, as well as to bring awareness of the situation. We are trying to give first aid medical help to unreached people. ...

Have You Forgotten?
North Korea is quite possibly the most restricted country in the world when it comes to the Gospel. In order to get the Good News of God’s salvation into this country, the Gospel is translated into the Korean language and printed on large balloons. These helium-filled balloons are then released when the wind is blowing toward North Korea as the "balloon-releasing missionaries" pray that the breeze will carry them to whoever needs to hear the Gospel message most desperately. Tiny holes that have been poked into the balloons ensure that the balloons slowly lose air and land safely in North Korea. But there was once a time that one balloon escaped this hole-poking procedure. This one balloon...

One of our main goals is to find ways to engage the next generation in what God is doing through native missions. But we need your help, and we need your prayers. Please continue to pray that God's power, presence, and guidance will be our strength and ever-present help. We have found that to engage means "to make active". Therefore, we must: educate the next generation about native missions by developing fun, interactive, native missions-minded, God-centered curriculum/resources so children & youth leaders are empowered. stress the importance of prayer by giving children & students ways they can pray for native missionaries. give opportunities to students to use their talents...

Impacting Children
India Gospel Outreach and Social Action (IGOSA) finds that the most effective way to minister is to target children. Among their many other ministries, IGOSA has four child development centers with approximately 700 children among them. While some of these children are orphans, the majority of them come from homes with parents who do not have the financial capability of sending them to school. By the grace of God, these children are doing very well academically. Along with their studies, these children are taught Biblical lessons and Christian principles. They also learn cultural dances that have been put to Christian music. Through these dances and perhaps a skit they memorize...

Tales of Summer Interns: Midterm Thoughts - Jenny
Midterm thoughts from Jenny Meagher. So far, the experience has been good, and I've enjoyed working on all the projects everyone has in progress. It's always exciting to see and hear testimonies from the visiting missionaries. Heidi and I have done so much work organizing partners online for the website that we actually have gotten got to see some of the people with whom we were already familiar. All the staff are very kind and thankful for what we're doing, and I'm certainly not used to that. In school, you are critiqued when you're done -- not thanked for working on it. :) So, overall, it has been very nice working here and getting to know everyone....

Today we will hear from Danielle! Working at ANM has been a stress relief to me over the past month or so. I know that as soon as I walk into the building, no matter what Lynn has me doing, I will be surrounded by love and the Lord. Even though everything I do at ANM is significant in some way, my favorite things have been packing over 20 Forex boxes to send to the Philipines and receiving e-mails back from the missionaries to whom I have been talking. A Light in the Darkness
Togo, Africa, is a country that is held in great spiritual darkness. Many of the villagers there live under the control of voodoo. Witch doctors use these practices to cast spells on the people and cause them to become sick or even die. The villagers cling to this darkness for fear of the witch doctors and also because they make a profit from selling hand-crafted objects to tourists who don't realize the strong voodoo connections these items have. But there is at least one ministry that is shining God's Light in the darkness. The workers of Army of Christ Mission (ACM) spend a lot of time on their knees. They first pray to determine which villages God is calling them to evangelize....

Sponsorship FAQs:
1. Why should I choose sponsorship? Not everyone will have the opportunity to visit another country and see the needs firsthand. Not everyone will share a meal with a native missionary or comfort an orphaned child. However, you CAN help! Many Christians have already caught the vision. They have discovered that equipping a native missionary or providing for the needs of a child represents one of the most fruitful investments they could make. There are still many missionaries and children who are waiting for a sponsor. You can make a difference. By prayerfully and financially supporting a life, you can make an investment that will last for eternity. 2. What does a sponsor receive? Each sponsor...

Bread, Fish and...Drums?
Bo Barredo, president of Advancing Native Missions, stands before a group of Filipino pastors. "This pastor and his wife have four children," he explains, motioning to the couple who stand next to him on the stage. "Since age 12, their oldest son has played the drums during their worship at church. He is now 17. His drum set is made from plastic bottles that he fills with water to make the different pitches. His cymbals are the lids from his mother's cooking pots, and even the lid from the slop jar in the bedroom. I think God would have us take an offering right now and buy this pastor's son a set of drums." As the invitation is given to place an offering in a basket near the stage, every pastor...

Family Ministry
Lily and Elise were raised by missionary parents. They grew up in a dangerous area where people were shot and killed on a daily basis and children were taken away from their parents and forced to serve in rag-tag armies. The girls ministered alongside their parents in a variety of ways until one day the family discovered that someone wanted them all dead. Lily and Elise followed their parents to the airport, hiding behind garbage cans and anything else that would provide them cover along the way. The family escaped to Florida, which provided a place of refuge for a time, but it wasn't long before God called them back to their native country to serve the war-torn people. Saying goodbye...

Heal This Heart of Mine
Author: Rebekah Monica is one of the most active people in her church. At only twelve years old, she reads better than most adults in her village. Since most of the village members are illiterate, they were curious to know the secret of Monica’s excellence in reading. Her answer is simply, “The Bible.” After one of the first church services that was held in her village by a neighboring ministry, Monica requested to be given a Bible so she could read these precious stories with her own eyes. Her determination to learn more about this Jesus caused her to excel at reading, and she became an inspiration to her classmates as she began to read the Scriptures to them.Then...

In the Face of Rifles
Samuel thought he was going to die for sure. His heart pounded frantically in his chest as he considered what could very well be his last conscious thought. “What about my wife and children?” Children. It was children who had ambushed him. These boys were as young as thirteen years old. They had most likely been wrenched from their homes and forced to serve in this rag-tag group of guerilla soldiers. Samuel looked around once more, and suddenly he didn’t see a group of killers with guns trained on him. He saw a bunch of frightened, teenage boys. “You’re afraid,” he observed. “You’re afraid of the fact that you could die in any given moment. I have...

The Call of a Pastor
One day, seventeen-year-old Antonio was near a church with his friends. They had been throwing rocks at the church building for weeks, but this day a bet was made. Whoever could sneak up to the front of the sanctuary and touch one of the girls who were praying would win this bet. Antonio stood in the doorway, waiting for a chance to make his move. Suddenly the pastor pointed straight at him, bidding him to come to the altar, but Antonio was not there to accept Jesus into his heart. He waited until the pastor closed his eyes in prayer before he slowly made his way forward. But as he drew near, the pastor opened his eyes. He asked Antonio what he was doing there. “I...

Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?
Abby's heart pounded wildly in her chest. She had picked the wrong shepherd, and now she was facing the consequences. In her mind, she knew the scene playing out before her was just an act, but it seemed so real, and as the screams from her other crew members rose around her, Abby got a little scared. The person in the wolf costume was rapidly approaching the flimsy sheepfold, and the so-called shepherd had bailed. "It's just an act," she reminded herself. "It's just an act." But as the wolf took hold of her cousin, Abby forgot that fact of which she had been working so hard to convince herself. She went into full defense mode, thinking of nothing more than saving...

How Beautiful on the Mountains
Take a moment to consider the Himalayan Mountains. They are so beautifully breathtaking, attracting hundreds of tourists to the area... but only at certain times of the year. These mountains can be as dangerous as they are beautiful. The climate and temperatures are extreme. And yet there are people who call these mountains their home - people who live in isolation forced upon them by the cold and snow. Who reaches these people with the saving message of the Gospel? There are a few who would dare to venture into the dangerous realms. Native missionaries who were born and raised in the area, who were somehow reached with the Gospel, and who long to see their people be freed from...

ANM's First Interns
We are truly blessed to have three college students interning with us this summer. We are excited to have them as a part of the ANM family. Two of them begin this Friday, and the other begins next week. In the days ahead, you will be introduced to them and have opportunity to read about their experiences throughout the summer. So check back often for the inside scoop on interning with ANM. Also, please join us in praying that God will use their gifts and talents this summer to bless the Kingdom and that each of these interns will have a life-changing experience. If you want to know more about interning with ANM contact Trisha....

Oopsey Ugali
Hey all you participants of the 10/40 Expedition (and those of you who are wondering how to make Ugali), there was a little oversight in the writing of The 10/40 Expedition: Quest for the Lost Window. The Ugali recipe we included in the Missionary Outpost manual is incorrect. The way we interpreted the explanation of Ugali and the way a native African prepared the dish for us turned out to be two entirely different things. Ugali (aka Cornmeal Mush) is not the runny, watery substance we fed to the kids at our first pilot church (although the mush was perfectly edible and no one complained). The real key to making proper Ugali is cooking it. The corrected recipe is...

Untouchable
The word "Dalit" means "crushed, broken, or oppressed." It well describes a group of people who are living in modern-day slavery. In the past, not even their shadows were allowed to cross a person of a higher caste. For centuries, their society has said they are "untouchable" - too lowly to be included in the Hindu caste system. They are considered subhuman and worthless by birth. Not only are the children denied an education, but the entire Dalit people are denied access to water sources for it is said they will contaminate them. One man dreamed of building a school for these children in order to equip them to break the cycle of poverty that has enslaved them for so long....

Brian's Story
Brian was an eighteen-year old drug courier who was also using crack cocaine, marijuana, other street drugs and alcohol. He was invited to attend a youth camp near his hometown, and there he found love, acceptance, and Christian fellowship. When the invitation was given to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord during the final chapel service, Brian was one of the first ones who came, crying his heart out to the One who had been crucified to wash away the sins of the world - Brian's sins. While giving his testimony, he asked the camp leader if he could hug her. She held him tightly for a long time, overwhelmed by God’s goodness and...

Cleaning Out Your Dorm
Tis the season for college students to return home for the summer. As students pack up to return to their families, they tend to throw away items they do not need or have never used that could greatly benefit someone around the world. If you are packing your dorm room and have items that you are getting rid of, but want to bless someone around the world, then set them aside and contact Trisha to see how they can be used to bless missionaries. If you want to collect items to send overseas to the missionaries, it would definitely bless the nations. Contact Trisha for ideas and details. Most Needed Items: Furniture, Toiletries (Shampoo, Deodorant, Soap, Toilet Paper, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes,...

Rebuilding Families
It is widely known that AIDS is a huge problem in Africa. Advancing Native Missions partners with a ministry in Kenya that believes AIDS is not the primary problem. According to ministry leader Tom Malande, the real problem in Africa is that families are breaking down and AIDS is merely one of the many symptoms. Tom and his wife created Family Impact Ministries with the goal of building (or rebuilding) families and bringing radical transformation to people of all ages. One of their ministry efforts is AIDS prevention. Tom works in partnership with churches, schools, Christian organizations, community-based groups, and the corporate community to provide dynamic...

The Miracle of Love
Romy Mendoza was skin and bones when he was found by a native missionary in the Philippines. Diagnosed with an acute and drug-resistant TB disease, Romy was waiting to die just as his parents and siblings had before him. The government doctor who examined Romy told the native missionary the sad news of Romy's condition, but even knowing how slim the boy's chance of survival was, this missionary took him into his home. Romy was taken to a Christian Medical Clinic where he stayed in the isolation room. For more than a year he was prayed for, fed, clothed, given medications, and most importantly, treated with loving care. After that year had passed, a doctor took his chest x-ray and declared that...

Internships Available...This Summer
This summer we are excited to announce that we will have ANM's first official interns. We currently have two students who will be interning this summer. One of them will be working in the media department with graphics, and the other will be working in the warehouse. We still are in need of a few more interns. We could use a couple graphic interns and two video interns. The graphic interns will be working to redo our publications and aid in the design of our new website. The video interns will be making staff videos and promo videos for our children's curriculum. If you are interested in interning with ANM, contact Trisha....

Preparing Your Kids
For those of you who are using the 10/40 Expedition curriculum, perhaps you would like to take a slower introduction to native missions before diving into this five-day expedition of a lifetime. Why don't you begin preparing your children ahead of time by telling missionary stories in their Sunday School classes? Kids will be amazed to learn that the miracles of the Bible are still happening around the world today. Don't know any missionary stories? ANM press has come up with a book of 100 inspirational stories of missionaries from around the world. These short stories consist of only two pages, so they could be easily worked into any setting, and there is a good chance that you...

Educating Africa
Children in Africa are starving. Not only for food, but for education. Without schooling - without an education that will train their eyes to look beyond their current situations - these children will never rise above the dire circumstances into which they were born. You can make a difference in the life of a child. You can help them receive an education that will make their futures that much brighter. Advancing Native Missions is partnering with ministries around the world to ensure that these children receive the educations they deserve. Only $25 dollars a month will send a child to school. Sweet Prayers
Here's an interesting way to get kids to pray for the countries of the 10/40 Window: In case you haven't noticed, the 10/40 Expedition's travel logs are color-coded. Africa is yellow, Middle East is purple, and so on. Hand each of your kids an m&m and have them pray for the region that matches their assigned color (perhaps substituting brown for purple). If you have come up with any interesting ways to use The 10/40 Expedition: Quest for the Lost Window curriculum, please email Rebekah so we can share the idea and help one another....

Expedition Tips
The 10/40 Expedition is up and running! Churches all over the United States are making their plans. What I find most exciting about these expedition preparations is that these hardworking children's ministers are sharing their wonderful ideas with me. In the past few weeks, I have heard so many amazing suggestions that I feel should be shared with others who may be leading an expedition. I will try to keep these posts coming faithfully every Saturday, so be sure to check back in for the latest expedition news. Now for tip #1... As you may know, the most unique part of The 10/40 Expedition is the opportunity to have a native missionary come share with your kids. We've had several people...

Needing the Word
I once read a book by Randy Alcorn which stated: "If all the Bibles in America were simultaneously dusted, the sun would be obscured for a week." Sadly, I believe that statement to be true. America has so many Bibles, we don't even know what to do with them. Truly we have been blessed. Walk into any bookstore, and you will find a vast array of Bibles in different sizes, colors and translations. When I find myself thinking, "Now, what did that verse say?" I simply pick up my Bible and look it up. NIV or New King James? It's that easy. I can't imagine not having access to the Word of God. Every day, Christians in North Korea wake up wishing they had a Bible to read. Perhaps they just have a few...

Youth Ideas for Summer
Happy Spring! It is a beautiful day here in Virginia. ANM is in the midst of a busy season preparing for summer activities and itinerating about 20 native missionaries. We are so thankful that God has given us the privilege to serve these ministries around the world and be a part of His Kingdom work. As we look towards making summer plans, we want to let you know about opportunities for your youth. If you are a youth leader, teacher, parent, a youth yourself, or someone involved with middle school, high school, or college students, then you don't want to miss this opportunity. ANM would love to host your group at our home office for 1-7 day work/retreat outings. This would be a mission trip...

Revival Among Children
A ministry in South East Asia recently conducted a children's camp. At first they were disappointed that only forty children showed up, but God would quickly reveal that He had big plans for this seemingly small group of kids. On March 10th, the Holy Spirit began moving among these kids. All forty of them felt convicted and began crying out, "Lord, forgive me of my sins!" This was followed by other confessions such as, "Mom and Dad, forgive me for telling lies to you." After the revival and repentance had taken place, the children continued to praise God until 12:30 at night. Even though the camp was only scheduled from March 8th through March 12th, the date was extended through March...

Reaching the Unreached
Matthew 24:14 states: "And this Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." This suggests to me that there are nations that have not yet been reached. There are tribes that keep to themselves and have not been penetrated with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They might even kill people who attempt to approach them and build a relationship. Such was the case of the Jarawas. This tribe lives on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands located off the coast of India. Advancing Native Missions partners with a ministry that has been called to reach out to these hostile people. The task is both difficult and dangerous, but this ministry has...

A Child's Heart for Missions
The 10/40 Expedition: Quest for the Lost Window's first pilot church was a huge success. Kids enjoyed the Biblical dramas, the cultural crafts, and even the regional snacks, but it was rather obvious to see that the majority's favorite part of the experience was getting to meet a native missionary. Donald works with a ministry in Mexico that runs a large variety of outreaches - many having to do with drug prevention. They formed a soccer team with the intention of keeping kids away from drugs and off the streets. They hold yearly youth camps and run breakfast outreaches in a poor village among their many, many other outreaches. Donald came to the US to share...

Bringing the Light to Darkest Africa
America is a greatly blessed land. Here we consider it an abnormality when someone doesn't have a car. In Africa, it is a blessing if you do have a vehicle. Many African pastors have to travel great distances to reach the lost people of many different villages. This can be a big challenge when the pastors have to walk those great distances. Ministries operate much more smoothly when they have a vehicle to use for travel. This is why Advancing Native Missions is partnering with people all over the US to provide motorcycles for African pastors. These motorcycles will carry a bearer of the Gospel into the remote villages of Africa. Please pray that many motorcycles will be...

Prayers for Trinity School
I ask you to pray for the needs of Trinity School in India. This school just began less than 2 years ago and is growing quickly! Here are some prayer requests: Pray for teachers and the ability to provide for teachers' salaries. This past year the school enrolled children in preschool through third grade. Starting this year, the school will enroll children through eighth grade. Pray for the school as they reach out to the poor and needy. This time of year, they are recruiting for the upcoming school year (starting in June). Pray for the spiritual lives of the teachers in the school. Pray that they will have a rest during the holidays and will be able to start a new year refreshed. Pray...

Supporting Church Leaders
God is raising up church leaders in Russia. These believers are taking a giant leap of faith by trusting that God will provide all their needs as they surrender wholeheartedly to His calling. You can help these people as they take a stand for Jesus. Please pray that God would continue to draw more and more Russian people to Himself. Pray that the leaders He is bringing up would grow in His love and in His Word. You can also support this ministry by sponsoring one of these future church leaders for only fifty dollars a month....

Traveling to Share!
We have been on the road for the last two weeks, meeting and talking with many of you. We've traveled through KS, IA, IN, MI, IL, and OH. We have been traveling to share our heart for what God is doing in the 10/40 window, as well as, how your kids can join the Lord in His work. This Thursday we have the last official "Live Preview Event" for this first trip out. We have enjoyed meeting people who are serving children in their home churches and have a passion for passing on God's heart for the world to their children. Now, if you were unable to attend one of our Live Preview Events, don't worry, we will be having more in the days to come. For more information, periodically check: www.the1040expedition.com...

Serving the Servants
Advancing Native Missions has given me the opportunity to meet many faithful servants of God from around the world. Ever since I was a little girl meeting missionaries who came to speak at my church, I was impressed by their giving hearts and how they served the people of the world. These missionaries labor tirelessly and give endlessly. But while they serve the nations, who is serving them? It isn't an exaggeration to say that these missionaries give all they have. They would rather go without than to see someone else in need. Many pastors in foreign lands don't even have enough money to buy the clothing they need. Advancing Native Missions has taken on the project of clothing the pastors of...

Help for North Korea
North Korea is a country with great need not only for the Gospel, but for simple necessities such as food and medical supplies. With an estimated 2.5 million people having died of starvation, Advancing Native Missions is attempting to touch a small part of that. Through our Warehouse ministry, we are able to send containers of medical supplies into this country. And when I say containers, I mean the back end of a semi. Our goal is to send four of these containers to North Korea this year. That's a lot of medical supplies! But we can't do this on our own. We need help from people like you. You can help by praying for this ministry. We firmly believe that prayer is powerful. The Bible says...

Visiting a College Campus
This week Mindy and I are attending Liberty University's Mission Conference. It is a time where we get to meet students who have a passion to serve the Lord through missions. We have talked to a number of students who have a desire to use their passions and talents God has given them to reach the lost. It is so encouraging to see the next generation's desire and heart for those around the world. We have also had some fun. We brought the cart with us and had some students take advantage of the photo booth. You can see a few of the pictures. If you are a college student and want to get involved in missions let Trisha know. We would love to talk with you and get you connected with your passions....

The 10/40 Expedition Global Games
The 10/40 Expedition's Global Games is the site where kids expend energy while learning Biblical truths. We have tried to add a cultural flair to these games. For instance, checkers, chess, and card games are among the favorite games played in Africa, so one of our game options is "human" checkers. The Middle East day has secret code games, and when your children visit Southeast Asia, they will learn how to play Filipino tag. At this site, your children will learn to work together to discover and share God's Word. Not only does Global Games provide a great opportunity for your kids to release all their cooped-up energy, but they will also experience games played by people the world over....

Goats for Africa
My sister got a little baby pygmy goat last spring and I must confess, I think she is the most fun creature I've ever been around. She would follow us around and curl up beside us like a dog would. I was amazed by how high she could jump with such little legs. If you are planning on getting a pet, I highly recommend pygmy goats. But in some areas of the world, goats are so much more than just a pet; they are a livelihood. Advancing Native Missions partners with ministries in Africa that are presenting goats to poor village children. These goats will make wonderful companions for these children, but also provide for them by producing milk. The goat's offspring can be sold in order to supply income...

God's Restoring Story of a Student in India
Two summers ago (2008) Mindy & I (Trisha) had the opportunity to travel in the US with eight ladies from one of the ministries ANM serves. We visited churches and government officials to share the ladies' testimonies of restoration. The following is one of the lady's testimony. She is currently attending a university in India. D's mother had been forced to work in the Red Light District from a young age. She had "D" while working and raised her within the district. "D" does not know who her earthly father is. She grew up moving around and living with lots of different people because of her mother's line of work. She understood what her mom did and says she knew...

Marketplace Snacks
And now for another glimpse into The 10/40 Expedition: Quest for the Lost Window: Marketplace Snacks gives children a taste of eating around the world. At this site, children get to sample rice and fruits and other foods that are eaten throughout the 10/40 Window. They will also be taught some of the eating customs from the regions they will be exploring. On the day that they will visit the Far East, you might even let your explorers try eating with chop sticks. Concerned that your kids will be picky about sampling things with names like hummus or ugali? Don't be. Hearing God Speak Your Language
Many people in India have never heard the Word of God in their native language. In a country where illiteracy is an issue, printing the Bible into the native tongues is not always the best method. That is why Advancing Native Missions is sending audio Bibles to the spiritually hungry Christians of India. These Bibles are available in nine different commonly spoken languages in India. They run on solar-powered rechargeable batteries that can last up to fifteen hours. Please pray for these people that are hearing the Bible in their own language for the first time. Passing of a Hero
One of the coolest parts of serving at ANM is that we get to meet heroes of the faith, the Native Missionaries. We get to hear their stories about what God is doing in them and through their ministry. I am humbled every time I get to sit and hear firsthand how awesome our God is and see the faith that these missionaries have. Many of them go through persecution on a daily basis, but have so much faith in God. They have a heart for the lost, and they will endure anything to do the work of their Heavenly Father. I had the opportunity to meet one of these heroes last spring. He serves in Cote d'Ivoire, Africa. I had the opportunity to hear him speak several times to students and tell them...

Wrapped in the Warmth of God's Love
For years, people have been trying to get God's Word into the hands of those who have not heard. They have come up with several creative ways to do it, but let me tell you about one of my favorites... God's Word is practical, right? It is something that can be used every day. So why not package it in a practical way? We are sending Bibles to North Korea in the form of blankets. Yes, blankets. We are keeping these people warm while giving them a chance to learn about the warmth of God's love. Please pray that these Gospel Blankets will touch many hearts with the message of salvation. Education Advocates: 2009 in Review
As I look back over the last year, I see the Lord at work in every aspect of Education Advocates. The Lord placed a vision in my heart to help the education programs of our native missions. He did this through placing a special burden on my heart for a school in India affiliated with the Rehoboth Home for Children. The vision for the school is to provide an excellent Christian education to the children at Rehoboth Home as well as to the poor and needy children in the community who are often denied access to schooling. When I heard about the school and its lack of supplies and resources, I felt a burden in my heart. I thought, I have to help them. How can I not? I was especially concerned for...

Highlights and What is to Come
When I look back at what God did through Student Missions this year I am humbled and in awe. To think that student missions did not exist at ANM 3 years ago and to see all that God has done is incredible. I am so blessed to be a part of what God is doing around the world and to be able to get students involved. The following are some of the highlights from this past year: We had the opportunity to visit 3 college campuses and a college club to get students excited about native missions Had a university take on projects to support the work God is doing through native missionaries in 20 countries There have been about 10 college students involved in projects to advance the work that ANM is...

Missionary Outpost
Missionary Outpost is probably the key thing that makes The 10/40 Expedition: Quest for the Lost Window different from any other curriculum. While we take kids through the usual stations such as games, snacks, crafts, and a Bible story, Missionary Outpost is the heart of it all. If there wasn't Missionary Outpost, there would be no 10/40 Expedition. Missionary Outpost is the site where the kids get to explore the different regions of the 10/40 Window. It is here that they learn about the different countries and cultures and are told how native missionaries are reaching the lost people of the 10/40 Window. Your kids will learn fun facts about different areas...

Ministering to the Ministers
I recently received a report from the Philippines that told of taking a bunch of pastors' wives shopping. These were women who constantly give of themselves and rarely receive anything in return. They were so overjoyed at being given a new dress or pair of shoes that tears came to their eyes as they thanked those who had blessed them with these simple gifts over and over. Advancing Native Missions is taking the same method of encouragement to Africa. Once again, we are going to bless those who give away what little they have. Please pray for these women who pour their hearts into serving alongside their husbands....

Student Missions: What's Your School Doing?
This week there have been two testimonies from schools that truly have touched us in our department. Both schools show what happens when students of all ages catch a vision and invest in God's work around the world. SCHOOL 1: A Christian school in Charlotte, NC, hosts a missions week each year. Leading up to the week they introduce a project to the students and tell them to do extra chores, sell something, or do something to collect for the project. For the last few years they have collected money to send Bibles to Iran. This year they continued this project to send Bibles to Iranians who cherish the Word of God. The students truly went above and beyond what one could imagine....

Bible Exploration
The Bible Exploration site is probably the most important part of the VBS experience. It is in this place that children hear the Word of God as they watch it come to life before their very eyes. The 10/40 Expedition: Quest for the Lost Window has a simple way of telling these stories. We take them straight from the Bible, but combine a few translations to make it more understandable to the kids. We think it is absolutely vital to convince these children that the Bible is not a fairy-tale. It's not some made-up story of people who never really existed. And while The 10/40 Expedition is meant to make kids aware of the work God is doing in the world, our efforts will amount to nothing if God does...

Bibles for the Nations
It is still a fact today that the Bible is the #1 best-selling book in America. Walk into a book store and you will find them by the dozens - different styles, different translations, but all the Word of God. Can you imagine a place where Bibles are nearly impossible to come by? Can you imagine trying to walk with God without being guided by His Word? Advancing Native Missions partners with a ministry that has translated the New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs into the Farsi language and distributes them to people who would otherwise never have one. A believer who gets their hands on one of these Bibles will often memorize entire chapters before passing it off to a friend who will...

Expedition Guides
Expedition Guides have what is probably the most important job in an entire Vacation Bible School program. These are the men and women who walk with the children throughout the entire day. And while kids are often impacted by those who lead Bible Exploration or Missionary Outpost, the Expedition Guides hold the highest influence of all. These are the people who build relationships with the kids. These are the men and women who know the children's names without having to look at a name tag. I still remember my favorite Expedition Guide. His name was Steve and he was so much fun. He gave us all nicknames and was always doing silly stuff such as playing with his snack or singing instructions...

Hope for Orphans
There is a ministry in the Ukraine that runs a summer camp for orphans and children from poor families. At this camp, kids are taught the love of Jesus by having it demonstrated to them. They attend Bible lessons, create crafts, play games, and sing songs. Last year, this ministry conducted four camps drawing a total of 406 kids. Many of these kids wrote letters of appreciation, telling the ministry leader of how they have finally seen real love and felt - perhaps for the first time in their lives - as if they were part of a family. Bible lessons is a favorite among most of the kids there, for it is during these lessons that they learn about this love they so desperately crave. Another...

Pray for a Teacher in India: Faith
Meet Faith. She is a teacher at Trinity Nursery and Primary School, which is located in a small town in southern India. Trinity reaches out to serve the poor and needy families in the community. Faith teaches the youngest children in the school, the pre-kindergarten and the lower kindergarten. She has a full classroom of lively and spirited children. You can pray for Faith in the following ways: Pray for guidance and wisdom from the Lord as she teaches the children. Pray for the children under her care. She has one child with special needs. Pray for rest and energy for Faith, as she has a full day without any breaks. Pray for the spiritual well-being of Faith’s family....

Why This Bag is Special
The tote bag in which The 10/40 Expedition is packaged was made by women in India. Because of a native missionary, these ladies heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ and were saved from a life of slavery. Your support in purchasing this curriculum aids in their new life of freedom. There are over 60,000 sex workers in the city of Mumbai, India. Every day, these young women are forced to do horrible things in order to pay off a debt they owe to the brothel owners who bought them. Many times these debts are far too high to ever be repaid, and those who do achieve in purchasing their freedom often have no place to go. Having been rejected by their families, these women turn back to the only other thing...

Reaching Lost Villages
The world is full of people who need to hear that Jesus came to save them. Advancing Native Missions partners with those who would take the Gospel message to these people. We have found that there are many pastors in Africa with a burden to reach these lost people, but they have difficulty in getting to them. Many of these faithful servants walk many miles because of their commitment to reach these people, but this takes time and exhausts the missionaries. Their work would be much more efficient if only they had bicycles on which they could travel. On a bike, these missionaries could cut back on the time it takes to reach these distant villages. With a bicycle, they could go farther and...

Pray for a Teacher in India: Selva
Meet Selva. She is the head teacher at Trinity Nursery and Primary School, which is located in a small town in southern India. Selva helps oversee the other teachers in the school and also teaches several subjects, including third standard (third grade) English class. Selva is lively and kind, always seeking out ways to help the children at the school. You can pray for her in the following ways: Pray for guidance and wisdom from the Lord as she leads other teachers. Pray for the children under her care. Pray for the school as it seeks to share the love of Jesus with the community. Pray for the spiritual well-being of Selva's family....

Native Missions Impacting the Classroom
This year some of our Native Missionaries have had the opportunity to visit a high school classroom. The following thoughts are from the teacher on how it has impacted his class. Dear ANM, I wanted to write and let you know the impact you are having in my classroom. I have the privilege of teaching an Intro to Missions and Evangelism course at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, VA. This is the second year the class has been taught and I couldn’t be happier with its outcome based on the partnership God has opened with your ministry. Debbie has done a wonderful job in scheduling your missionaries to come in and be guest speakers during my lectures. The experience for...

Why Missions?
Those of you who have been hearing about “The 10/40 Expedition: Quest for the Lost Window” have probably posed the question: “Why missions?” Why is that the focus of this curriculum? Allow me to do what I do best and use a story to illustrate my answer… Once upon a time, there was a little girl. Let’s call her Alexa. Alexa was born into a family that supported native missions. She grew up hearing missionaries' stories that reminded her of the Bible stories about God’s miraculous provision. Alexa soaked in all that she heard about missions – especially when she was at missions conferences. The church she attended hosted these events once a year,...

Native Creations
It is time for yet another glimpse inside "The 10º/40º Expedition: Quest for the Lost Window" curriculum. This time, I will give you a preview of the Native Creations site. This is where the kids are allowed to exercise their creativity in constructing crafts with a native flair. The curriculum offers two different craft ideas. For the day that focuses on Africa, you can create either an African drum or a tribal necklace. Upon "traveling" to the Middle East, you are given the options of either Turkish pottery or a mosaic garden stone. South Asia will give you a chance to make an Indian wall hanging or Indian jingle bracelets. When "exploring" South East Asia, you are given instructions...

Roofing Filipino Churches
In our American churches, we don't ever think about inclement weather interrupting our services or causing us physical discomfort. However, many of our brothers and sisters around the world face the elements literally "without a roof over their heads." But you can help provide for Filipino believers as they gather to worship. For only eight dollars, you can purchase a 3 foot by 8 foot piece of roofing material. Generally it only takes twenty pieces to cover a whole church building, so for only $160 dollars you could supply an entire roof for a Filipino church family. Please pray for these people as they continue to gather together in worship despite the elements....

A Glimpse into the Window
If you've been hearing about the 10/40 Expedition, but aren't entirely sure what it is, allow me to clear a few things up for you. First of all, it is about changing lives. It is about reaching the hearts of children with the love of Jesus and encouraging them to share it with their friends and family, but it also encourages them to pray for missionaries around the world who are sharing God's love every day in their own countries. Specifically, the 10º/40º Window. But to give you a glimpse into this curriculum, let me tell you about "Bring-It-On-Home Finale." After learning about Jesus and missions through songs and dramas, crafts and games, interactive activity...

Soccer Salvation
Seedtime and Harvest Ministries has an amazing outreach happening in Mexico. The drug addiction in this area is so rampant, and the workers of Seedtime and Harvest desperately wanted to do something to change this. Realizing that soccer was a passion among many of the youth, they decided to start ministering to these kids through the game. When you are on drugs, you cannot play on a professional team no matter how good you are, therefore many of these addicts jumped at the chance this ministry offered them. In fact, these kids sometimes travel from eighteen hours away just so they can play soccer. Once they have joined the team, they are invited to church and youth events where the...

Operation Car Blessing: Part Two
Now for the rest of Operation Car Blessing. After spending some time with some of Mindy's relatives I made the journey to Daytona to conduct Operation Car Blessing. On my journey over I got excited thinking about how I would feel if this was happening to me. I wanted to make it as great as possible. I knew what a tool the car will be for L and how it has burdened her parents. So I went through a car wash, wiped down the inside and made it smell real nice. My excitement was growing as I got closer and then there it was... I was in Daytona Beach. I was only a short distance to meeting L and taking part in something that was such a privilege for me. When L saw me & her new car her face lit...

Mosquito Nets
Whoever loves mosquitos, raise your hand! What, no takers? That is okay, because I'm with you. I can't stand those nasty, blood-sucking creatures. If I so much as see one, I tense up and watch it until it comes close enough to kill. I figure I have to strike first if I don't want to itch for a week. But while I fear a little discomfort, there are those who fear sickness and even death. In India, mosquitos are known for carrying diseases such as malaria, filariasis and elephantiasis. People are losing their lives to these creatures I deem as merely annoying. But you can make a difference. We at Advancing Native Missions are raising money for mosquito nets that will be sent to...

Sponsor a Child from Rehoboth Home for Children
Advancing Native Missions assists children's homes and orphanages which are run by Christian ministries focused on evangelizing the lost. In the course of reaching the unreached, many native missionaries come across orphaned or underprivileged children who lack proper food, shelter, clothing, and education. In some instances, these ministry leaders have started children homes dedicated not only to feed, clothe, and educate these helpless children but also to raise them up to be effective, fruitful disciples of Jesus Christ. In these children's homes, many boys and girls decide to become followers of Jesus; and as they grow up, some decide to become missionaries to their own people! One...

Operation Car Blessing: Part One
One of the coolest things about serving native missionaries is that the Lord allows us to bless their needs. We serve alongside an incredible family in Columbia. The missionary leader has been through many challenges and the Lord has spared his life more then once, but he is still faithful to serve the Lord and reach those who have not heard the gospel in Columbia. His family has faithfully served the Lord alongside of him. He has two daughters that have invested greatly into the ministry. One of his daughters (L) is attending college in FL majoring in Physics and Engineering. Mindy and I (Trisha) had the opportunity to spend some time with her this past fall. She is a wonderful young...

Balloon Bibles
Have you ever done one of those things where you tie your address to a balloon, throw it up in the air, and wait and see from how far away you would get a response? I remember doing that with my church when I was young. I would get so excited and dream that mine would land a whole state away. And while I did it just for fun, Advancing Native Missions supports a ministry that uses this technique in a very effective way. What I am holding in my lap looks very similar to the protective orange covering that you might find encasing a newspaper, but in all actuality it is a big, square balloon. Printed on this waterproof substance is an entire gospel in the Korean language....

Thanking God for You
Happy Thanksgiving!! I am thanking the Lord for your partnership with us. If you are reading this blog post, I am thanking the Lord for YOU specifically. Thank you for your prayers and concern for native missionaries. Please continue to pray for the children at Rehoboth Home for Children, the teachers at Trinity Nursery and Primary School, and the educators working with former prostitutes through Bombay Teen Challenge. We can learn much about thanking the Lord regardless of our circumstances from Pavithra and Gokul, children at Rehoboth. These children recently had delicate surgery on their hands to help correct deformities. Even through their pain, they cried out to the Lord,...

Time to be Thankful
Well, this is the time of year we reflect and look back on all the things we are thankful for. This has been such a full year for student missions and we have much to be thankful for. God has opened so many doors throughout this past year to involve high school and college students in supporting native missionaries around the world. We wanted to spend some time reflecting on what God has done. The following is some of the ways students have gotten involved to impact the world around them. - College students collected $10,000 to help with 39 different projects. - High school students giving up a week of their summer to encourage and bless the ANM staff - College students going overseas...

Music for the Nations
Frontier Care Ministries (FCM) in West Bengal, India preaches the Gospel to many strong believing Hindus. Though it is perilous to share the good news of Jesus, these missionaries are determined to reach these lost people. Many new believers undergo resentment and rejection from their communities. This reason alone keeps many Bengali people from embracing Christianity. But there are those who choose to become outcasts among their family and friends rather than deny their need for a Savior. FCM consists not only of pastors and workers, but of prayer warriors. These faithful servants spend much time on their knees praying that the hearts of the Bengali people will be opened and interceeding...

Surgery for Rehoboth Children: Update
Siblings Pavithra and Gokul are two of the orphans cared for at Rehoboth Home for Children. They have recently had surgery to help correct a birth deformity in their hands. After the surgery, they were in intense pain but they were crying out to the Lord, "Sthothram, Sthothram (Praise God, Praise God!)" They know that the pain will give way to much better use of their hands. Today, they woke up without pain! Please pray for good recovery for the delicate healing of hand muscles and nerves. Please pray too for the stamina of the ministry leaders as they care for Pavithra and Gokul along with the rest of the children....

Salvation Through Education
Thawai and Veneko Chaisuk run a ministry called Maekong Sub-Region. It is located in Thoen, Thailand, where they are able to reach people involved in the drug trade. Many Thai people are spiritually hungry for the Gospel. Thawai and Veneko have answered God's call and chosen to minister to these needy people. In the midst of all the church planting and evangelism they are doing, the Chaisuks have a dream of building a Christian school. They realize that the opportunities to receive a good education in their area are few, so this school is their attempt to remedy that, as well as lead many children to the Lord. They have already purchased two and one-half acres of land, but are waiting...

Pray for Surgery for Rehoboth Children
Pavithra and Gokul were born with deformities on their hands and feet. Therefore, the use of their hands and feet have been very limited. Last year, surgery for these siblings' feet was performed. This surgery enabled Pavithra and Gokul to wear shoes for the first time. Now, these children are having surgery on their hands. Please pray for the surgery and their recovery afterwards. Praise the Lord that He has provided this opportunity for Pavithra and Gokul. Just as Jesus said that the blind man was born blind to display the glory of God, please pray that the Lord would receive glory through these surgeries. ...

Cool College Ministry
On November 11, Mindy and I (Trisha) traveled to Johnson City, TN for a college missions conference. The conference was being held at The Well. The Well is a cool college ministry that was started by college students in 1998 and has grown into a huge ministry that ministers to the local colleges. They have a service on Wednesday nights and weekly small groups. You can check them out online. Every year they do a mission conference to give college students the opportunity to get involved in serving. ANM has been attending for at least the last 4 years. Mindy and I went last year and had some good conversations with students, but this year blew it out of the water. There were about 15 organizations...

Student Speaks Out About Mission Trip
The following testimony is from a girl that I was privileged to go to Guatemala with. She has an incredible heart for the Lord and a willingness to serve wherever there is a need. I think you will be able to see a little of her heart beat in her testimony. Hi, my name is Brittany Jones. I am a 16 year old from Louisiana. This trip to Guatemala was my first international mission trip. It was an amazing experience. God definitely opened my eyes to needs of others. In the US we often get complacent. We expect God to give us certain things and we expect not to have any problems. It is not that way here. A lot of people don’t even have the basics for survival. Working in the nutrition center...

Clean Water for the Nations
Many people around the world either don't have access to water or only have contaminated water. The Ati Tribes Mission (ATM) is a ministry in Southeast Asia that ministers to the people of Antique province. It's founders, Roger and Sylvia Elosendo have a heart for the Ati people and want to reach the twenty-one Ati areas with the Gospel. They also would very much like to start a Bible School ministry to encourage the people of Ati. Last year, about a hundred young people attended ATM's summer youth camps and many opened their hearts to receive Jesus as their Savior. The main needs of ATM are a well to draw fresh water from and rice, as it is their staple food. The Elosendos...

Love Like a Child
The other day, I was sharing about Rehoboth Home for Children in a school in Virginia. This school is beginning a partnership with the school at Rehoboth. I was reminded once again of Jesus' words that we must become like little children to enter the kingdom of heaven. I explained to the children that the children in Rehoboth often had parents who did not want them. A five-year-old boy raised his hand and wisely stated, "Those kids should pray for their parents." This is a seemingly simple statement but it has profound implications. We should show love and care toward those who have hurt us, those who have abandoned us. We should forgive...

Thoughts on Guatemala Trip
The team made it home from Guatemala Saturday evening. As I said in previous posts I, Trisha, co-led a trip to Hope of Life ministry in Zacapa Guatemala. The group we went with was from Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria, LA. What a great group of people! We went to Guatemala as strangers but left as family. They were some of the hardest working people that I have served with on the field. It was amazing to see the heart each of them have to serve the Lord. I think one of my most impactful things of the trip was to watch the group and see how the Lord moved in each of their lives individually. During our eight days in Guatemala we were all stretched by the Lord to step out of our comfort zones...

Faith Like a Child
Recently, I had an experience with my two-year-old niece Charlie that reminded me of kind of faith that pleases Jesus. I was spending time with my sister Ayesha and her daughter Charlie at a lake. In the middle of the lake were three large fountains of water spraying water high into the sky. After a while, the fountains turned off. I decided to play with Charlie and told her that when I pressed her nose, the fountains would turn back on. I watched the fountains for signs of life and at just the right moment, I pressed Charlie’s nose. Jets of water once again sprayed toward the sky. Charlie was amazed! I began to say that I was just joking around, but Ayesha reminded me that Charlie didn’t...

Saving the World on Bicycles
Have you ever stopped to observe how much time we Christians pause on the side of the road to share the Gospel with a nonbeliever? Have you shared the love of Christ with someone at school or a friend that you know is not a believer? Perhaps you are thinking, "I don't want them to think I'm preaching at them," or, "What if they don't want to be my friend anymore?" Kulo and his wife, Faith, have a ministry in India called Maharashtra Village Ministries (MVM). They devote their time and energy to witnessing to the Indian people. In the year 2008, MVM reached five districts in Maharashtra and shared the Gospel in ninety-nine villages. Six hundred and sixty-three people were open to the Word...

Serving in Guatemala is Mucho Bueno
As I said last week I was traveling to Guatemala with a team from a church in Louisiana. We have been in Guatemala for 5 days now. It has been great! God has done some amazing things. The ministry we are visiting is Hope of Life. The leader, Carlos, is truly a visionary. He has a heart for the people of his home country, Guatemala. He has built an orphanage, nutrition center, senior center, schools, and churches. Through this last week we have broken into teams to minister in different areas. Part of the team has set-up medical clinic to serve those in villages who don't have medical care. The other part of the team is building greenhouses to help families plant crops to feed them and have...

At Rehoboth Home for Children in Southern India, there is a Christian school ministering to the community: Trinity Nursery and Primary School. Trinity welcomes children from the surrounding community and has a diverse population, with many Hindu, Christian, and Muslim children along with those from poor and needy families. Malliga, the ministry leader, has a vision for the school. Trisha's Next Stop
Hey All! Well I am going to be on the road again, this time my travels take me to Guatemala. This will be my first time to Guatemala but not my first to Central America. I am co-leading a trip of 24 people to ministry we serve in Llano Verde. The ministries name is Hope of Life. They truly are giving people hope for their lives. They serve in so many ways that it would take me forever to list all they do. The main functions are to serve the malnourished, run an orphanage, school, elderly facility, and warehouse ministry. While we are there we will be conducting medical clinics, constructing a house and 4 greenhouses, and ministering to the people. I am so looking forward to the trip and all...

It is our great pleasure to introduce to you our newest addition to the ANM Team. Over the last few years, as we developed the 10/40 Expedition curriculum, we have been praying that the Lord would bring someone to help, to be the Curriculum Coordinator. Well as you will read below, God is so faithful and so creative. Please join us in welcoming and praying for our newest addition to the ANM Family, Rebekah Snyder. "I grew up in a Christian home with parents who made Jesus so easy to believe in. I gave my heart to Him when I was very young, never once doubting His existence. Pray for the Staff of Bombay Teen Challenge
Please take time to pray for the staff of Bombay Teen Challenge who minister to prostitutes and their children in Mumbai’s Red Light District. They are committed to prayer and devote themselves to it for five hours at a time, three days a week. They provide the hope of Jesus a difficult place, where it is easy to become discouraged. They work tirelessly building relationships with women and caring for their medical and spiritual needs. The following are prayer requests from the staff of the health clinic. Often times, people are open to the gospel and then suddenly their hearts are closed. This is an ongoing spiritual battle that discourages the staff. Pray for hearts to be open to...

Natural Disasters in the Philippines & Indonesia
Written by Joel Maas, Advancing Native Missions A/V Coordinator Advancing Native Missions has received several reports from both the Philippines as well as Indonesia regarding the natural disasters that have hit in those countries this past week, and will be acting as a conduit to channel donated funds through our partner ministries to victims of the typhoon and earthquake. A School's Potential to Minister to the Community
When I spent time at Rehoboth Home for Children in southern India, I focused on working with the teachers in Trinity Nursery and Primary School. Before making the trip, I had thought that if we can focus efforts to increase the quality of the school, the school would draw more children from the community. In turn, the funds that the school received from tuition could be a potential way of helping the home for children become more self-sustaining. What I didn't fully realize was the school's potential to be an important component of sharing the love of Jesus with others in the community. Here is one story of how Trinity School ministers to the community. Meet Jagen....

The Teachers of Trinity Nursery and Primary School
INDIA: The teachers of Trinity Nursery and Primary School are a kind and faithful group of educators. I was struck by their eagerness to learn and their welcoming spirit! There are currently six teachers, one for each grade (preschool through third grade) as well as a head teacher. One of my goals during the trip was to begin to develop a relationship with the teachers with the hope of providing long-term professional training for them. Unlike teachers in the United States who are used to receiving a lot of professional development (and sometimes complain about it), the teachers I met in India did not have access to ongoing training or courses....

Cool Things Happening in Student Missions
Well today we are launching a project at Liberty University that is so exciting. Last year the students at Liberty took on 25 projects that impacted 39 ministries around the world. The students definitely made a difference around the world. This year they are taking a huge step up with their project. They are getting involved in building a Christian university in Ghana, Africa. Today in Africa more than 73% of the population is less than 50 years old and more than 50% is less than 15 years. In Ghana, like in most Africa countries, more than 60% of high school students who qualify to go universities do not gain admission. There are not enough universities coupled with inability to...

While we were in India, we visited Bombay Teen Challenge (BTC), a ministry focused on breaking the cycle of human trafficking in Mumbai’s Red Light District. When talking with prostitutes and brothel owners, the staff emphasizes two main points: 1. Jesus loves you Women can believe this because the ministry is right there in the heart of the Red Light District offering free medical and dental care along with prayer and worship services. The BTC staff members are building relationships with the women. 2. Jesus has a plan for your life This is more difficult for women to believe. Everything that they had has been ripped from them and many are dying...

Insights on Missions from Students
More thoughts from youth, Cody is from Ottumwa Community Church who has been a supporter of ANM since the beginning. Enjoy Cody's insights on missions. I think missions are awesome, they help a lot of people around the world.I think it's really nice that ANM's Operation Child Hope is reaching a lot of children in foreign countries, and in the U.S. I think that a lot of people need to know they can help others in many ways know Jesus Christ. Not just through giving money but also through physical work and prayer. If we all work together and work really hard I think people in foreign countries will receive the help they need and come to know Jesus. - Cody Storto...

Kids Giving Bookbags
Many of the ministries we support at Advancing Native Missions are in need of school supplies. They use these supplies to be the catalyst to bring children to know the One True God, Jesus. Please get your kids involved. For just $20 you can give a child in the Middle East the tools for school, and the chance to hear about Jesus who can save them from their sins....

Why Native Missions?
For the last few days, Trisha and I have have been traveling to visit friends, family, churches, and attend a few mission conferences. As we travel, there is one question that always comes up...Why Native Missions? Well, indigenous nationals are people who are sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in their own country. We call these people native missionaries. They are Christians in their home countries sharing their faith in Jesus Christ with their family, their friends, and their neighbors. They know the language and the culture -and that is half the battle. These Bible believing brothers and sisters are part of our family, the Body of Christ. If we pray for them, support them,...

Student Missions 104: Volunteer
Are you looking for ways to get your youth group or school or students involved in missions? One you can do that is to allow them to volunteer some time at the ANM home office. There is always work to be done and this is a great way to get your students feet wet into missions, and allow them to rub shoulders with some of the heros of the faith. Below are some different volunteer opportunities for students to volunteer and get a good dose of missions. Ways to Volunteer: * One-on-One ~ Students can volunteer their time in the ANM Home Office assisting the staff to serve the Native Missionaries around the world. There is much to be done, so students can volunteer for one day or on a consistent...

Meet the OCH Director
Hello, My name is Mindy Spurrier and I am the Director of Operation Child Hope. Our team thought it would be good if we shared our testimonies of how the Lord saved us and how we came to be working with Him here at Advancing Native Missions. We appreciate your prayers and look forward to updating these stories of faith in the future. I was born in Ocala, Florida as an only child to my parents. My childhood was unique because by the age of nine, I had moved 20 times within the USA because of my Dad’s job. Then in 1985, my life was turned upside down because my parents divorced, which moved my mom and I from where we were currently living in Tennessee back to Florida to live with my Grandma....

Student Tells All About Short Term Trip
One of the privileges I have is to see young people's lives be changed by native missionaries. It is so cool to see how God uses missionaries to change lives. Dustin is the grandson of a staff member at ANM, he had the opportunity to go to the Ukraine on a Construction Trip this summer. The following is what he had to say about his trip. "While I was in the Ukraine, God really touched my heart for the people there. It was almost as if He told me, 'This is what happens when the truth is taken out of the picture.' At one point in the trip, we went through a park in Chernihiv. What I saw was one of the most disheartening things I had ever seen. Kids fourteen to sixteen, kids my age, were...

Meet Trisha Tolar
Introducing Trisha Tolar, Director of Student Missions: I grew up in the church as a pastor’s kid. Most of my early memories are being in the church or with our church family. I am so thankful the Lord gave me the privilege of having wonderful Christian parents. When I was five years old I began asking my parents questions about God and what it meant to put my faith in God. They were very faithful in answering my questions and letting me know anytime I wanted to accept Christ as my Savior to let them know. I remember the day vividly. I was outside playing on my swing set by myself, and I felt this nudge that it was time, I was ready to take the step of accepting Christ as my Savior. I...

Where Should I Start?
Many have asked:How can get involved? Where do I start? How can I help? How can I pass on this love I have for missions to my children, students, families? And our first response is always....Pray! Many times we think that praying is not enough, but oh no...not when you are praying to the one who is more than enough! The best gift we can give our brothers and sisters overseas is a heart that is praying constantly to the Lord on their behalf! Also, there is no better way to pass on the burden for missions, than teaching those the Lord has placed in your influence to pray. Lead by example, begin praying to the creator and sustainer of all things, Jesus Christ, for His kingdom to be advanced....

Missions Moment With a Senior in High School
Enjoy some thoughts from Erin Wyldes. She is a senior in high school and is a part of Ottumwa Community Church in Ottumwa Iowa. Her family has been supporting ANM for 16 years. Impacting young people to serve those around them and impact the world is the reason we do what we do. "Missions and ministry has always been an important thing in my life. Being a PK (pastors kid) I was brought up in ministry but throughout growing up I have learned to love missions. To start out, my holy discontent would be caring for others. I feel really strong about not letting people fall to the way side, no matter who they are. I feel strongly for any one who suffers in any way. Another side to the struggle...

Pencils for Colombia (by Sue Morris)
A missionary from Colombia spoke in our school’s chapel a few weeks ago. He shared that the children at his school didn’t own even one pencil or piece of paper. He asked if our students would be willing to share a pencil with the children in Colombia. He ended with the query, “Are any of you called to be a missionary?” About 15 of the 42 kindergarten through 7th graders responded. After chapel, the missionary was talking with some teachers and students when he was suddenly surrounded by beaming kindergarten students each holding up a shiny new pencil with a colorful eraser and pencil grip. The impact of this act is far reaching! In times of danger, memories...

Trisha's Insights on India
First off I am so thankful that the Lord allows me to do what I truly enjoy. I feel so blessed that He has allowed me to travel and work with young people. I am humbled often that He chose me to be able to work with people who are making a difference for the Lord around the world. It was truly a blessing to be a part of the team to visit Bombay Teen Challenge. This was my first visit to India and will not be my last. As some of you may know I have visited some international hospitals on past mission trips. So, I make my parents and others very nervous when I travel overseas. I truly believe the times I was sick in the past was because I was not traveling the path God wanted for me....

UPDATE: The 10/40 Expedition Curriculum
While the NXG "on-site" team was in India, The 10/40 Expedition Curriculum was piloted at a church in Iowa Thankfully, our "off-site" team of volunteers who have helped develop the curriculum were able to go and see their hard work in action. By taking pictures, video, and interviewing, our team was able to capture many God moments. We have had many reports since the Pilot. We will keep you updated as we hear more. But please join with us in praising the Lord for all that He is doing to bring glory to His name! Over 100 kids attended the Pilot Expedition By the end of the week, 32 children came forward to accept the Lord as their Savior. At the same time, one father also came to...

Prayer Requests for Trip to India
Hello, praying friends! We are here in India helping with the school at Rehoboth. We are very excited but need your prayers. Here are some requests. Pray for the teachers of the school. They have very few resources and are very happy about receiving training. Please pray for them to remain open to instruction. Pray for me that I know how to help the teachers take the next step forward in their instruction. Please pray for a Hindu family that has a child with autism. There is a big struggle and the child's mother is suicidal. Children with disabilities appear to be viewed as a curse to some families in India. Pray for the ministry leader that she will be able to have the opportunity...

We are Here at Rehoboth Home for Children
Everyone has welcomed us so warmly at Rehoboth Home for Children. We are fed so well (and so much)! Indian hospitality is amazing. I have had the opportunity to interact with both the children and the teachers. The children are precious. Each time I visit them, they surround me with love and ask about things like my favorite color and birthday. The teachers are very kind and desire to grow in their teaching. They are doing amazingly well given the limited resources (such as no children's books in any classrooms). I will be working with these dear teachers next week daily to help them to take the next step in their literacy instruction. Please pray that the Lord will guide us in this endeavor....

More on Travels to India
Good Morning from India! We now have some more energy after getting a little bit of sleep. When we boarded the plane for Atlanta there was a couple issues so we sat for an hour before taking off. The flight went pretty smoothly. We all enjoyed watching the different countries we flew over. We waved at Oliga's family in Moldova. Then we got to Mumbai and there was a bad rain storm. So we got to circle Mumbai for about 45 minutes. So, all in all we were in the plane for 17 hours. Needless to say we were ready to be off the plane. We made it through customs and got our luggage with no problems. Then we found our friends and traveled to our hotel. When we arrived at the hotel they had a leak so...

Please pray... that we will be humble servants of the Lord and will seek to glorify Him in all we do. that we will follow the Lord's leading in developing a partnership with the school. that we will be prayerful and allow the Lord to shape us. for the children we will be visiting. for the widows we will be visiting. for the teachers and ministry leaders. for wisdom for Sonia as she meets with teachers and observes...

One Heart Touched (by Sue Morris)
As I was sharing with my first and second grade class about a ministry a friend of mine started in Honduras, I saw a child’s heart touched in a special way. The ministry is one where children are brought in for milk, cookies, and the Gospel. I was sharing that these children are street children and that this might be the only food they receive in a day. One child wanted to go to the feeding station but had no clothes. He didn’t want to go naked so he found a cardboard box, flattened it, got inside it, and used it as clothing to cover himself so he could receive cookies and milk. As I finished sharing about this little boy and how we could pray for him, one of my students...

Student Missions 103: Hosting a Missionary
A way for students to learn about native missions is to have a real live native missionary come to your church, youth group, club or school. This is a great way for students to learn about the country the missionary is from and the ministry they have in their own country. Students have the opportunity to ask questions about the things they have wondered about different parts of the world. It makes missions real to students. We have about 40 of our missionary leaders visit the US to share about their ministry....

Help Them Come to Him
Matthew 19:14Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Although there are many good children homes and orphanages around the world, ANM assists children homes and orphanages which are run by Christian ministries focused on evangelizing the lost. In the course of reaching the unreached, many native missionaries come across orphaned or underprivileged children who lack proper food, shelter, clothing, and education. In some instances, these ministry leaders have started children homes dedicated not only to feed, clothe, and educate these helpless children but also to raise them up to be effective, fruitful...

Credit Where Credit is Due
Picture this. You are a stage hand working behind the scenes for a theater company. Each night, you watch the actors take their bows and receive credit for their work but no one really notices your contribution. Long after the curtain closes, the audience remembers the actors but never the stage hand. Sometimes I struggle with the answers to these questions: Is it okay with me when I receive little recognition for my efforts? Am I content with my hard work if no one but the Lord Jesus knows about it? When I find myself wanting to make sure others know about my efforts and accomplishments, I remember the following words: Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your...

Why Learn About Native Missionaries? An Educator's Perspective (by Sue Morris)
Mark Twain said, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” Maya Angelou added to this by saying, “Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” The Bible says, “God hath made of one blood all nations of men.” The challenge as an educator is to help children who may never travel the world to grasp the concepts of acceptance, open-mindedness, and concern for people of the world. One very powerful way to accomplish this is through exposing children to native missionaries...

A High Schools Student's Thoughts on Missions
Raquel is a high school student who has a unique testimony and thoughts on missions. Enjoy seeing the heart of a precious jewel. "I am native to Nicaragua, Central America, where poverty is everywhere. I lived part of my childhood walking the streets. In 1997 a family helped me and placed me in an orphanage where they took care of me. I lived in the orphanage until 1999, when I was adopted by a family in the US. Since then my parents have adopted my half brother and two other children from Nicaragua. We have all become a family and I have brothers and a sister to share my life with. My parents started a feeding center in Nicaragua that feeds the street children twice a week. This gives children...

Who are the Children at the Trinity School at Rehoboth Home?
The following stories are reflections shared by a recent visitor to Rehoboth: One special student learning at the Trinity School is Monica. She and her sister Yaamini came to Rehoboth a few years ago having just lost their parents to AIDS. They had their beautiful black Indian hair shaved to remove lice and sat with their arms around one another trying to find solace. Soon they realized they were in the company of the very One who loves them and they began to learn of Him and began playing and interacting with the other children. Monica has a good friend Chandu, who all the other children love to call Shadrach. He had been abandoned by distant relatives when his parents died, and a pastor brought...

A Story of Compassion from Rehoboth
Here is a story from someone who recently visited Rehoboth Home: I would like to tell you about one little family that illustrates the need and compassion found at Rehoboth. One day while at Rehoboth, a slight woman named Shanti came to speak to Malliga, the ministry leader. She appeared to be about 30 years old, was wearing a blue sari and had a countenance that could not hide her deep sadness. Later Malliga explained to us that Shanti was afflicted with AIDS from her deceased husband and was growing weaker. She had already visited three times, begging to have her children accepted into the safety of Rehoboth before she died. Malliga had been deferring the decision as it was an awkward time...

Learn About Rehoboth Home for Children
Below is an excerpt from a newsletter about Rehoboth Home for Children: “To understand India, you must imagine yourself walking down dusty streets, past the sights of fruit stands, jasmine flowers, multi-colored fabrics, and Hindu shrines; past the homeless, the poor, and their small homes made of coconut leaves; and through the sounds of bustling traffic and busy marketplaces. However, in one southern city, there is an oasis where visitors are greeted by children’s laughter and the sounds of them at play. Welcome to the Rehoboth Home for Children. The home is made up of two buildings (one for boys and one for girls) separated by a grassy field. A vivacious Indian woman...

Thoughts From a Student on Native Missions
Below is a testimony from a student, Rebekah Snyder, who has been impacted by native missions. "Missions has been a huge part of my life. My parents supported Advancing Native Missions since its beginning. I grew up learning about missionaries sharing God's love with the world. When I was eight years old, I decided I was going to be one of them. Giving to missions has been such a rewarding thing. It has made me realize that the world is so much bigger than the little town I live in. It never fails to bless me when I choose to give to others and then hear how my small sacrifice has made such a difference in their lives. I've gone on mission trips in the states before so I've...

There are so many ways that you can use the gifts God has given you to serve Him and those He places in your path. First you need to seek God and the desires He has for you. Impressions From a College Student
I know you have been waiting with great excitement more information about Student Missions. Here are some impressions from a College Student on her involvement with Native Missions. "As a student at Liberty University, I had the great privilege of encouraging practical involvement in missions on my residence hall alongside the vision of ANM. It was a blessing for us as a hall to partner with ANM in furthering the Gospel of Jesus Christ by supporting these native missionaries! We were able to support them both in prayer and through various hands-on missions projects. This past year I was given the opportunity to serve as a Spiritual Life Director on a hall of sixty-nine young women. During...
