Enrique Martinez grew up without a mother. His father remarried and was always drunk. As a child Enrique nakedly roamed the streets of Iloilo City, and at age six his father sold him to a couple for a sack of rice seeds. He was assigned to tend to the water buffalo and thus could not go to school. Enrique received the Lord in 1975 after hearing the Gospel from a tribal leader. Desiring to serve the Lord, he went to Bible school where God supernaturally helped him to learn to read and write. There the Lord gave him a burning desire to preach the Gospel to his fellow Filipino aborigines, the Ati people. After graduating he began to pioneer church work in Antique province. Enrique and his wife Margie later moved to Aklan and started a pioneering work there in 1992. Ati Tribal Aklan (ATA) is a ministry reaching the Ati people in Buruanga Island, Boracay Island, and Kabangrusan. Their vision is to also reach the Ati tribals in the province of Capiz. Aside from evangelism and pioneer church planting, ATA also conducts feeding programs for malnourished Ati children, food distribution to needy families, and medical outreaches.
