GA Ministry: Global Advocates

"…But you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone."

Luke 11:42

Global Advocates (GA) is a ministry of ANM that offers the legal and mediation community direct opportunities to advocate on behalf of native missionaries worldwide.

In affirming the important and vital work of other international Christian legal organizations toward bringing justice and religious freedom to our troubled world, GA seeks to fulfill a unique niche in this work by:

    1. Operating at the grass-roots level, instead of the governmental, diplomatic, or political levels.
    2. Assisting participants to act as "general counsel" for specific native missionary groups or projects in a country of their choice.
    3. Providing opportunities to assist and/or work alongside indigenous attorneys.

What Does It Mean to Be a GA "General Counsel"?

The most important qualification for a GA "General Counsel" is having the right heart: a willingness to "go the extra mile" in one's concern and advocacy for native missionaries worldwide, and perhaps for a native missionary group or project in particular.

First, GA will help interested parties (called "GA General Counsels") select a particular native missionary group or project in a given country for advocacy.

Second, the GA General Counsel establishes a relationship with the native missionary group leader-through emails, faxes, letters, or even a personal visit-to learn first-hand about the legal, financial, spiritual, and other needs of the group. Needs will usually be variegated and may include such things as prayer support, a wheelchair, general legal counsel or referral to a local legal advisor, bail money, funds for a church building, or rights training.

Third, the GA General Counsel works to locate resources to meet those expressed needs-whether by providing those needs him/herself or by networking with other individuals and organizations (such as churches, foundations, corporations, etc.). GA encourages GA General Counsels to use creative methods to advocate for their native missionary group or project, with the goal of maximizing spiritual and material blessings to them.

GA General Counsels may also choose to assist their native missionary group or project in other ways, including:

  • hosting the native missionary group leader in their home or hometown on a short-term basis and help coordinate an itinerary to introduce him/her to others who may wish to help his/her ministry
  • going to personally visit the native missionary group to encourage, pray with, and perhaps offer/arrange for requested training (e.g., rights training)
  • identifying indigenous attorneys working in the same region as the native mission group, and offering to assist those attorneys with legal, moral, prayer, and/or financial support. Where those indigenous attorneys are not Christians, seeking the Lord's will in sharing the Gospel with them.

Each GA General Counsel has the freedom to design his/her own approach to advocate on behalf of a certain native missionary group or project. GA will of course gladly work with GA General Counsels in developing a strategy that matches your gifts, desires, and context.

Why Should I Be a GA General Counsel?

    1. The Bible commands us to "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves" and "defend the rights of the poor and needy" (Proverbs 31:8-9). As a GA General Counsel, you will be speaking up for potentially hundreds of native missionaries who may have no one else to speak up on their behalf. Many native missionaries serve in lands closed to outside missionaries, face persecution regularly, and live among the poorest of the poor in the Third World.
    2. The Lord has blessed many individuals in the legal and mediation community with abundant resources (particularly in comparison to the rest of the world)-financial, spiritual, and social. Although you may never go and bring the Gospel personally to an unreached tribe, as a GA General Counsel you can use all your resources and connections to directly assist those on the front lines of world evangelization.
